Dovelotl: Against the zombie horde

A splash art illustration I made during my studies at DigiPen Institute of Technology Singapore. The initial goal was to illustrate two characters interacting in a scene as either friends or foes, as well as to use this opportunity to paint a Valentines' / anniversary gift of my boyfriend and I (collectively known as "Dovelotl" -- a reference to our spirit animals, the dove and axolotl). But as the illustration developed, I ended up needing to paint more "characters" than expected, in the form of zombies! It was a challenge to finish this in the same timeframe that was expected of a solely two-character assignment. I decided to pick purple and blue for the zombie colours to make them look more ghoulish and fantastical, rather than go with the usual sickly pale green-skinned zombies in pop culture. I might have also been subconsciously inspired by the zombies in the Fortnite games we played together.
